Teapot Dome is the name of a scandal during the Warren Harding administration. It was named after a land formation in Wyoming sontaining a large quantity of oil. The scandal involved members of harding's administration leasing government oil reserves to private oil companies in exchange for "loans." The U. S. Senate investigated and some people, including a cabinet member, went to prison. The scandal erupted during the election year 1924, but Harding's successor, Calvin Coolidge, was untouched by it and defeated John W. Davis in spite of the uproar. Some more information on the Teapot Dome scandal can be found in the Grolier encyclodedia here. This page only includes Teapot Dome items which do not mention Davis.
